Honor the history
Age and imperfection are not automatic defects. We preserve the character that gives a piece identity and repair what keeps it from serving well.
Restored & reimagined in North County San Diego
We believe furniture can carry its history forward without being trapped by it. Field House Design gives well-made pieces a considered second life, balancing character, function, and finish.
The Field House point of view
“Restoration is not about erasing what came before. It is about deciding what deserves to remain, then building thoughtfully from there.”
Our history
Every piece begins with close observation: its bones, its flaws, and what it might become.
Field House Design began with a simple instinct: look again. Where others saw dated finishes, damaged surfaces, or furniture headed for disposal, we saw good bones and unfinished stories.
What started as the hands-on work of rescuing individual pieces grew into a distinct approach to design, one grounded in patience, curiosity, and an almost unreasonable attention to detail.
Today, each project is still personal. We restore acquired pieces and reimagine furniture for clients, allowing the needs of the piece, the room, and the people who live there to shape the final design.
Our philosophy
Age and imperfection are not automatic defects. We preserve the character that gives a piece identity and repair what keeps it from serving well.
A beautiful finish is only successful when the piece works for real life. Scale, storage, durability, and the surrounding space matter.
Transformation does not require excess. The right color, hardware, texture, or restored wood can say more than a dozen decorative gestures.
Preparation is part of the design. Cleaning, repair, priming, finish selection, and protection determine whether the result merely photographs well or lives well.
Quality, made visible
We approach furniture with the rigor of a craft and the imagination of a design practice. No two pieces require exactly the same process, but every project follows the same commitment.
Tell us about your piece ↘Study the construction, condition, materials, and intended use.
Develop a direction that belongs to the piece and its future home.
Clean, repair, sand, seal, and prime with no shortcuts hidden beneath the surface.
Build the finish in considered layers, then add hardware and details.
Choose a durable topcoat suited to how the furniture will actually be used.
Selected transformations
Every project begins somewhere different. Select a transformation to see what thoughtful repair, deliberate color, and uncompromising preparation can reveal.

Whole-home furniture reimagination
A heavy dark cabinet was repaired and reimagined in a warm, light-reflecting finish. The result retained its traditional construction while becoming quieter, brighter, and fully integrated into Client “E”’s home.

Five-piece bedroom revitalization
A dresser, two nightstands, mirror, and media console were reimagined as one cohesive collection. Soft white finishes, warmer accents, restored hardware, and tailored interiors transformed the room without requiring entirely new furniture.

Tailored outside. Unapologetic inside.
Once a worn blue dresser with mismatched details, Vanilla Noir was rebuilt as a tailored statement piece. A warm vanilla body and deep black top create the polished exterior, while vivid red drawer interiors provide an unexpected reveal.

A fresh piece for a fresh beginning
A petite writing desk was refreshed in coastal blue and warm white, then finished with understated brass hardware. The completed piece found its new home with a newly graduated psychiatrist, ready to begin a new career of its own.

Repair, restraint, and a color that shifts
Extensive repairs gave this once-worn cabinet the foundation it needed for a true redesign. Its deep blue-black finish changes with the light, while a walnut-finished top and warm brass hardware bring richness and contrast.

A well-traveled piece reclaims its dignity
Once property of the United States military, this dresser still carries its original barcode. After an unsuccessful refinishing attempt, warm white, black hardware, and renewed mahogany details restored its dignity without erasing the evidence of where it had been.

Why it matters
To restore an object is to believe that wear is not the end of its story. That idea reaches beyond furniture. It is a quiet reminder that thoughtful work can reveal value that was present all along.
We make pieces meant to be touched, used, lived with, and eventually marked by a new chapter. Not perfect. Not disposable. Purposeful.
Every piece has potential. Sometimes it just takes a little imagination, a lot of work, and someone willing to see what it could become.
